Mundane Science Fiction Premises

Recently, I discovered to my horror that many of my favorite science fiction novels weren't really about science fiction at all! Just take a look at some of these premises, for example:

The Fellowship of the Ring: A heartwarming tale of cameraderie and male bonding in the professional wrestling industry.

The Two Towers: The building of the World Trade Center.

The Stars My Destination: A young man's ruthless struggle to get his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Childhood's End: The Michael Jackson scandal.

Fahrenheit 451: Homestyle cajun cooking with Julia Child.

The Time Machine: The Bulova Story.

Snow Crash: An airline disaster in the High Andes.

Second Foundation: Renovating your aging home from the ground up.

A Gift from Earth: Explore the wonders of plants, our gifts from the Earth.

Ringworld: Action/Suspense in the Diamond Jewelry industry.

Starship Troopers: The hilarious adventures of a group of USO entertainers aboard a cruise ship.

Destination Void: A young postal inspector investigates the dissapearance of several mysterious packages.

The Illustrated Man: The sequel to the popular Gray's Anatomy Coloring Book.

The Courts of Chaos: An essay on our modern legal system.

Stranger in a Strange Land: The American Immigration experience.

Wolheim's best SF: Explore San Fransisco with this popular travel guide!
